Environmental concerns, limited supply of fossil fuels and the growing international renewable fuels industry mandate the development of energy solutions addressing those issues while at the same time retaining customer satisfaction.
Given MBH´s niche producer role as an engine manufacturer mainly in the cogeneration and Dual-Fuel fields in the past years, developing a conversion technology for engines other than MBH´s was inevitable.
In 2002-2003 MBH started extensive research into the renewable field which resulted in the development of the Conversion Module, which is designed to convert existing medium-speed diesel engines and power stations to allow them to burn and run on Crude Vegetable Oil.
Modifying existing engines and plants for operation on Crude or Refined Vegetable Oil (Palm oil, Jatropha oil, Pongamia oil, Rapeseed oil, etc.), allows power station operators to use local or renewable raw materials as complete or partial substitutes for fossil fuels.
Engines converted to vegetable fuel will show no loss in power output and will require no derating. The engine´s ability to absorb sudden load changes will to a large extent remain the same as prior to the conversion to Vegetable Oil.
MBH has since converted a number of its and of other manufacturer's plants into CVO operation with more than 30,000 successful running hours on its own power plants.
